The Hands and Feet of Jesus
From Jairo:
Jesus told his followers “you are the light of the world” Matthew 5: 14
We are so excited to share with you a great milestone for our ministry in Nicaragua. We have shared with you that one of the communities we work with is called Santa Ines. This is a larger community neighbor to Mombachito. Our work with this community is also based on evangelism, economic development and education; Our ministry in this community has always been in partnership with the local church in the community, led by Pasto Jairo Alvarez.
One of our goals in our in our ministry is to empower the local church so that the community may see Jesus through the actions of a vibrant congregation and it’s love towards the community… well, a need was presented to me about and older couple who was living in very poor conditions, without a proper shelter, unsafe and definitely uncomfortable. I met with the church leaders and the pastor, conversed about how we could offer help in this situation, taking into consideration all the potential options. To the glory of our Lord, they got busy, gathering donations to purchase supplies. Donations throughout the community were given not only from church members but also from nonbelievers so that ALL THE NEEDED MATERIALS were gathered and the construction of the house for this couple has become a reality.
We are so excited to share this news with you because this shows the power of the unity of the church in Christ! Even among their limitations and many needs, they decided to become light and salt, sharing the transforming power of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. "
Hebrews 13:16
We praise the Lord for this amazing opportunity to continue to be conduits of the Gospel to the people we work with, sharing our faith, equipping them to become agents of transformation in the community, and walking alongside them. Praise and glory be to our Lord Jesus Christ.
God is so good! We are happy to report that we will be flying to the U.S. tomorrow and witnessing our son Sean's graduation from Dordt University! After spending time in Michigan with family and friends we will return to Nicaragua in July.
*We will need to borrow a car from May 11-July 20. If you know of anyone who is willing to allow our family of 4 to borrow (or rent!) a reliable vehicle, please let us know via email: Jairokellys@gmail.com
